From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of personalities, and a thrilling plot showcasing angels, demons, and dark forces increasing in power within the city.
Warning: Key plot points for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 follow below.
The Soldiers Table Unveiled
The latest chapter finished on a major cliffhanger and introduced the premier party of heroes who will separate from the central cast to embark on their independent quest, distinct from the remaining groups.
The Soldiers table includes Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).
Dividing the Cast
Given a large ensemble, it was evident from the beginning that keeping everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.
That’s why, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, intertwining the individual narratives before dividing into three distinct groups: Fighters, Strategists, and Questers.
The Nature of the Soldiers Table
As described by the DM, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who prefer a typically action-packed fight-heavy gameplay experience where non-violent answers are scarce.
Initially, characters like the squeamish cleric the cleric might look out of place, but the events of the third episode demonstrate why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the warrior group.
Motivations for Departure
First, the party knows exactly where to proceed after a brutal initial meeting with the antagonists.
Casimir of the deceased character—whose death kicked off the story’s plot—used the enemy for his selfish purposes, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, striking Thimble, and taking all the magical artifacts to dispose of.
Casimir then cleared his liabilities and escaped to a secure base in the remote area, north of the city, with Cyd close behind.
Character Drivers
Secondly, each adventurer has a specific drive to leave the city the urban setting:
- The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, wants vengeance.
- Kattigan has experience in Timmony and cautions that it is a dangerous location.
- Tyranny and The healer, having resisted his house’s orders to eliminate Teor and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
- Yet, their reputation as important members in the powerful family could assist the team reach areas they usually can’t.
- Moreover, The grateful character vowed a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his deliverance and will now go with him wherever.
Pursued by Authorities
Finally, all of them are wanted by the powers that control the city for a range of causes, making staying in the city no longer safe:
- The agile adventurer and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
- The strong figure and The healer betrayed the influential house and the army of fiends they are allied with.
- The target is wanted dead by House Halovar.
This means them no alternative but to travel to the remote area in search of the traitor.
